It’s easy to think that tips like these were ones we’ve always grown up believing. These little bits of advice that were given to us or heard somewhere. It is hard to believe that some of these myths aren’t true…
- Smiling causes crow’s feet: Myth
Squinting causes crow’s feet. Creases around the eyes are more prevalent in women with thin and fair skin.
- A lack of sleep causes dark circles: Myth
Insufficient sleep doesn’t actually cause permanent dark circles, but it will cause temporary changes that make the skin look darker.
- You get varicose veins or spider veins by crossing your legs too much: Myth
Either problem is caused by crossing your legs. A major component of these issues is that they are both genetic.
- Drinking water prevents skin dehydration: Myth
Too much water and your skin will dry out. Look for products containing non-acnegenic oils! Oil keeps the skin moisturised!
- Brushing hair 100 times a day makes it glossy: Myth
Try not to over brush your hair as you’ll just weaken the follicles and cause breakage. A few strokes before bed help distribute natural scalp oils throughout the strands.
- Shaving makes your hair grow back coarser, thicker and darker: Myth
Uncut hair is the widest at the base, then it narrows. When you shave, you are cutting the strand from its widest part. That’s what is seen when it grows in- so it looks thicker.
We have finally gotten down to the bottom of these beauty ‘tips’ and ‘facts of advice’ that were somehow handed down to us. Comment below and tell us any more common myths that you know of!
